Writing text

Headlines, sub-headlines and long texts

Keep your reader's attention span in mind when writing the text for your story, and be sure to make it easy for the reader to navigate through your article.

The sheer volume of text in many longform pieces can become daunting. A clear structure for your work is vital. This includes the use of chapters, headlines, sub-headers and featured text such as quotes or key pieces of information.

Most longform stories are broken up into chapters. This is important because many readers may not have the time to sit down and read through the whole story in one sitting. When they come back to the story at a later point, the chapters and headlines will help the reader return to their place. Alongside each headline, it may be necessary to include sub-headers to further define the text.
