Getting started

Choose your story: Be sure to choose a story that has meaning to you, a character or situation that is in flux, or an expose of sorts.

Length: This may sound counterintuitive, but your longform story doesn’t need to be long, it just needs to be good. Decide on the scale of your project at the start, and consider adding to it later if you determine that there is more important content.

General tips for longform:

• Consider creating your story in teams. Large stories are often researched and put together by groups.

• Know how your multimedia elements are going to feed into the story at the outset.

• Make sure that every element serves to enhance your storytelling.

• Storyboarding is your friend.

• Don’t get sucked into the limitless opportunities that the Internet can provide.

• Try to not overwhelm your reader. Simple is okay and will serve to give your readers a moment of stillness.

• Many views come from mobile users; be sure to test your story on a mobile before releasing it to the public.

• Select videos and images of high quality, especially for fullscreen rendering.
